The Shops that Made our Town – a nostalgic look at Westbury’s past

Once upon a time, or so it’s been said, there were over 200 shops in Westbury. While this may not be completely accurate, those with long memories will recall the days when it was possible to buy almost all you could want in Westbury itself without going to larger towns.

Before supermarkets, and the building of the High Street, small family shops lined many of the town’s streets.

In this fascinating talk, Liz Argent will look back to the twentieth century as she recalls those grocers, bakers, sweet shops and other businesses that were trading then.
