A Westbury Timeline

Westbury’s history begins when huge marine reptiles swam in the warm Jurassic seas that covered Westbury and continues to the “birth” of the famous Westbury White Horse and on to the crucial battle where Alfred the Great defeated the Danes in AD 878. It then wends its way through history – touching on the Reformation, the plague, the Civil War to Westbury’s heyday in the industrial revolution when mills, ironworks, railways all make their mark, and on to the present day.
