Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Westbury Museum – from the friendly face of welcome to behind-the-scenes admin and research – there isn’t a single part of our service that volunteers are not involved in.

Our volunteers give their time for a variety of different reasons, including :

• it’s a great way to meet new people
• it can give you a purpose and a sense of belonging which can help prevent social isolation
• you are passionate about history and heritage
• it is proven to increase self-confidence, self-esteem and wellbeing

Westbury Museum is entirely volunteer-led and we couldn’t do half the exciting things we do if it wasn’t for their help. You really don’t need to know everything about our local history – even those of us who have been volunteers for some years are still learning and finding out new facts about our town and its heritage. We pride ourselves on our inclusive culture and welcome volunteers from all walks of life.

Volunteering opportunities include:

• Join our team of researchers who undertake specific requests from our visitors or researching topics for our exhibitions and displays
• Work with our collections team who are maintaining, recording and archiving our donated artefacts including photographic images, maps and physical artefacts displayed in the museum
• We are always looking for creative people to develop and upgrade our displays and organise our annual programme of events
• We welcome social media-savvy folks who understand our need to embrace the digital world through our social media channels
• Become a “front of house” friendly face to meet and welcome visitors. Some visitors enjoy chatting and hearing in more detail about the history and significance of the exhibits.
